Study Abroad Experience in Florence, Italy pt. 1

At the very beginning of 2020, I hopped on an Alitalia 777 plane from JFK to Rome, marking the start of my study abroad experience. Spending a few days traveling around Rome visiting the Colosseum, the Vatican, and the Pantheon were just a few of the most incredible sites I have seen. After heavily exploring the food markets, emphasis on heavily, I fit as many delectable ingredients in my personal item as I possibly could and then caught the first train to Florence, Italy. The ride was absolutely gorgeous, going through the country side and passing all of the ancient villas and palazzos. Once I arrived in Florence, I hopped off the train only to see a McDonald's facade staring back at me, immediate disappointment set in. Had I just traveled across the world only to see the same places I already have at home? I turned away from the McDonald's as fast as I could and set out for my new home for the next four months, a quaint three story walkup built in the 1600's. I walked down the tiny, cobble stone streets only fit for foot traffic in the fashion district and arrived at my front door. As I yanked my roller suitcase up to the third floor loft, I regretted packing as much as I did. All of my worries instantly disappeared when I opened my front door to see an adorable red leather couch, a kitchen with a washing machine built under the counter-top, and windows that opened out to a neighboring bakery. This was exactly what I had been waiting years for, the start of an unforgettable European experience.
